Introducing Aston Vision Sciences’ colour enhanced Fluorescein Filter, the perfect choice for high-resolution and effortless observation of the anterior surface and a wide range of anterior eye defects. The filter provides superior viewing performance and is especially good at seeing tear film break up used for dry eye disease assessment, partial blinks and foreign bodies in the eye.

Aston Vision Sciences Fluorescein Filter Page

The unique shape makes the filter comfortable to hold but has also been designed to clip on to many common slit lamps, allowing for a fast and simple upgrade of existing equipment.

Common uses of the Fluorescein Filter include the viewing of:

Corneal abrasions
Trauma
Foreign bodies/ debris
Tear breakup
Partial blinking
Contact lens fitting/ irritation

AVS’s unique yellow colour formula is tuned to work close to the fluorescein emission spectrum, clinicians get high clarity and contrast compared to others on the market- all at a much lower price. Performance is very strong in lower blue-light levels which is more comfortable for patients and reduces blue light hazard exposure.

What makes the Fluorescein Filter from Aston Vision Sciences so good?

1. See more Details- tuned colour formula reveals fine details, even in difficult lighting conditions
2. Perform more Tests- convenient hands free operation with many compatible slit lamps
3. Multi Use- in situations without a compatible slit lamp filter can be held in position by hand
4. Anti-scratch Protection- raised bumpers along with large lens area give both protection and clear viewing
5. Low Cost, High Performance- high performance, simplicity and convenience, all in a low cost solution
6. Tear film break-up in action- fast changes in tear film composition give rise to darker regions indicating the possibility of dry eye disease which become apparent with the Fluorescein Filter.

I have been using this new filter for a few weeks now, and can say it's a real step forward. I always liked using the free cardboard filters if possible, but they seem to get very dog-eared and grubby quickly, while the filter lens itself gets scratched easily. Not what I want my patients to see me using. You also have to hold it in one hand, while the other manipulates the microscope, and the other hand ..... ! The temptation was not to use it, but then I did question was I missing the more subtle signs.

This filter seems to bring up the fluorescence better than previous inbuilt filters I have used in the past, without having to increase the brightness overly. I use it on every patient exam, it clips on nicely, and I tell the patients it enables my exam to be even more sensitive than an exam without it. I have now amended my DE and CL exam records to indicate it has been used, from a medico-legal point good I think.

Perhaps the next version could have it's raised bumpers on both sides, which would mean it could slide into place no matter which way round it was and give even more protection from scratching, although mine seems fine currently.

I feel it makes my DE and CL exams more detailed and am pleased with my investment.
